Clipping
In this context clipping does not mean to cut certain scenes of a video, but to remove, for example, annoying frames or logos from the video by changing the visible size of the video picture. This function can be found in Effects (see picture below).
When you click on Clipping, a small, but highly functional menu opens. On the left-hand side you can change the size of the video (see below). On the right-hand side you can set additional parameters and apply (OK) or cancel (No Clipping) the clipping.
Change the picture size
With minimal effort the picture size can be changed. At the margin and in the middle of the video there are small, cyan boxes. When you hover over any of them with your mouse, they turn dark blue. Then just press the left mouse button and you can drag the white frame into the desired position.
If the picture size has been changed, the rest of the picture is dimmed slightly (see image below). If you click on OK, the video picture will be reduced to this size in the encoding.
If the frame is red, the selected clipping is too small for a useful result (see image below). In this case it makes sense to enlarge the clipping frame.
Aspect ratio
When you select No aspect ratio, you can freely choose the size of the film. But if you aim at a classic format, such as 16:9 or 4:3, you should select the appropriate format in the clipping menu (see below). Now you can change the still change the size of the frame, but the ratio between hight and width stays the same and is automatically adjusted to the format.
Maximize the aspect ratio
By double-clicking on the blue box in the middle, the video will be centered and brought up to its maximum size while keeping the previously selected aspect ratio.
